A city which was once considered attractive to just the businessmen is becoming one of the most preferred tourist destinations. Detroit is no more just a city of motors. Apart from maintaining the edge on motors, the city has now become a very attractive destination that can keep you overwhelmed with fun, for days together.

Detroit is primarily drawing attention owing to the developments in Woodward Avenue. The city has numerous theatres and that host various performances and concerts, which has made this district an important place on the tourist map. You should enjoy a show while you are in the city by finding ahead what shows are playing during your visit to the city. You will love to watch the show as there is always one that suits everyone's taste, requirement, passions and pockets.

Detroit Institute of Arts is a must see destination if you are interested in culture. This museum has a large variety of collection of art from all ages including Asian and American art, ancient art, and art from the 20th century. The Detroit Institute of Arts is one of the largest museums in North America. This museum houses the famous art works of Picasso, Van Gogh, Degas, and Rembrandt among many other different art works.

Henry Ford Museum is another important museum you should never miss. This museum was established by Henry Ford himself with a view to educate the masses on the inventions of steam locomotive and motorized roller skates. This museum displays a timeline and chronicle of the numerous inventions of Henry Ford. Apart from that, the museum also displays the history of the automobile industry of North America.

Another museum of importance in Detroit is the Motown Historical Museum. In this museum you can find the original recording studio used by Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, and Smokey Robinson, but no paintings can be found hanging around. The museum houses many memorabilia made famous by many popular musicians.

As are most regions, the Midwest is a unique area of the United States, and has its own culture and arts. A great way to introduce some of it to you and your children is by making a trip through the New Detroit Science Center. It's a remarkably fun way allowing the family to interact with science, rather than just looking at exhibits. For example they use Digistar technology. With it you can make a virtual visit to space and view our universe, viewing Mars and some of the other planets. You may want to consider that it may be too technical for very young children.

The Detroit Zoo is one of the largest wildlife exhibits in North America. In fact it is known worldwide for its gorilla and chimpanzee population. Some other favorites at the Detroit Zoo are the Arctic Ring of Life, the Amphibian Conservation Center, and an Innuit Village, highlighting the lives and animal species of our neighbors in the far north.

In the summer, Detroit is crowded with families who travel during school holidays. The spring or fall are the ideal time to visit Detroit if you want to stay away from the crowd. Avoid visiting during the peak winter season unless you have a penchant for winters, as the city is cast with a snow blanket.

A trip to Detroit will give you a rewarding experience and fun. Detroit offers all the entertainment in the world and at the same time has its own uniqueness which you will never want to miss.
